Bogor Regency Government Forms Team to Accelerate Cijurey Dam Construction

Bogor Regency, West Java — The Bogor Regency Government has formed a joint team with the Citarum River Basin Centre (BBWS Citarum) and the Ministry of Public Works (PU) to accelerate construction of the Cijurey Dam, which is targeted for completion by the end of 2027, earlier than the original plan of 2028.

Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto, in a statement received by ANTARA in Bogor on Friday, said the team was formed as a follow-up to coordination with the central government to speed up completion of the national strategic project.

“Yesterday, together with BBWS and the Ministry of Public Works, we formed a team to help one another complete it, for acceleration,” said Rudy.

He explained that construction of the Cijurey Dam is currently proceeding according to the stages already set. The Bogor Regency Government hopes the acceleration efforts can shorten the project’s completion time.

“The timeline runs up to 2028. The stages are proceeding according to the 2026 and 2027 schedule; what was originally due to finish in 2028, we hope can be brought forward to the end of 2027,” he said.

Previously, Rudy stated that the Cijurey Dam is prioritised to strengthen irrigation services for farmland that has frequently suffered drought during the dry season.

According to him, the dam is expected to water agricultural areas while also supporting food security in Bogor Regency.

In addition to irrigation, the Cijurey Dam is also designed as flood-control infrastructure. Based on a presentation received by the Bogor Regency Government, the 203.9-hectare dam is projected to reduce flooding by up to 59.33 percent.

Construction of the Cijurey Dam covers four villages across three districts, namely Sukamakmur, Cariu, and Tanjungsari.

Rudy added that besides the Cijurey Dam, progress on the Cibeet Dam continues and has reached approximately 91 percent.

The Bogor Regency Government will continue coordinating with BBWS Citarum and the Ministry of Public Works so that both national strategic projects can be completed sooner and their benefits felt by the public as quickly as possible.

According to him, the presence of the Cibeet and Cijurey Dams will not only strengthen water security and irrigation services, but also reduce flood risk, support the provision of environmentally friendly energy, and drive economic growth in Bogor Regency and surrounding areas.
