Bogor Regency Government Drafts Roadmap for Regional Carbon Market Development

The Bogor Regency Government in West Java is drafting a roadmap for regional carbon market development as a step towards building a green economy while opening up financing opportunities based on carbon emission absorption. Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto stated that the roadmap is part of the region’s strategy to develop the potential of carbon trading through greening programmes that have been implemented sustainably. “Our focus is building a documented and sustainable planting system. The potential for carbon trading through IDX Carbon is an added value that can be developed in the future,” said Regent Rudy Susmanto in Cibinong on Tuesday. The roadmap was discussed in a meeting with PT TUV Rheinland Indonesia, which presented the mechanism for national carbon trading through the Indonesia Carbon Exchange (IDX Carbon) and the carbon unit registry system (SRUK). Regent Rudy explained that the administration has carried out a massive and structured tree-planting programme, with approximately 45,000 trees planted. He noted that the greening programme is not only aimed at preserving the environment but is also being prepared to have economic value that can provide long-term benefits for the community. The Regent has requested that relevant agencies, together with PT TUV Rheinland Indonesia, immediately conduct land assessments, vegetation inventories, and finalise the carbon market development roadmap for Bogor Regency. He assessed that the roadmap is crucial to provide the region with a clear direction in developing a green economy, covering emission measurement, carbon absorption, the registration process, and opportunities for carbon trading on the national carbon exchange. PT TUV Rheinland Indonesia representative Mukhsin Safiq expressed readiness to support the Bogor Regency government in measuring emissions and developing a carbon market programme that meets standards. “Integration of vegetation data, land data, and the carbon registry system is key to ensuring that the region’s carbon absorption programme can be recognised in the national carbon trading scheme,” said Mukhsin. Through the drafting of this roadmap, the Bogor Regency Government aims to make carbon market development an instrument for green financing while supporting low-emission development at the regional level.
