Bogor Regency Government Builds Wells at Water Source Points Amid Drought

A number of sub-districts in Bogor Regency, West Java, are experiencing prolonged drought. Various efforts are being made to address the problem.

“Today we are extending the drought emergency response decree. We also note the BMKG release indicating that the peak of the dry season has not yet been reached,” said Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto on Monday (31/8/2026).

As an initial response, his administration is distributing water to 40 affected sub-districts. At each distribution point, water tanks have also been prepared as storage containers.

“The Bogor Regency Government continues to distribute water daily to the 40 sub-districts. And at several locations we have prepared water tanks,” he said.

In addition, the government is also building wells at water source points, so that water can be distributed to communities affected by the drought.

“We have also built several wells at water source points that can be distributed for the benefit of the community,” he added.

Rudy also urged residents not to discard cigarette butts in dry undergrowth or burn rubbish carelessly, as this could trigger land fires that spread rapidly.

“We appeal to all residents: rainfall intensity is very low in Bogor Regency. There is a lot of dry undergrowth, so do not discard cigarette butts carelessly. And if you notice any fire spots, do not burn rubbish carelessly,” he said.

“If there are any fire spots, let us extinguish them immediately together. Of course, we must protect the environment together, protect Bogor together for the Indonesian nation,” he added.

The drought has also affected the agricultural sector in the region. Several crop varieties have not been planted due to the prolonged dry spell.

“The dry season has been ongoing for several months now. So some agricultural land has not been planted with the usual crops, such as rice. Because there has been no rain, farmers have not yet been able to begin planting,” he concluded.
