Bogor Regency Government Begins Normalisation of Vanished Irrigation Channels

A number of irrigation channels in Bogor Regency, West Java, have reportedly disappeared. The Bogor Regency government has begun normalisation efforts to restore the function of these lost channels. “Several irrigation channels have disappeared, but we are working today in irrigation areas, collaborating with BBWS and PSDA, working together to reactivate some of the existing irrigation channels,” said Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto on Friday (3/7/2026). Rudy stated that interventions to restore irrigation functions have been carried out, including in several sub-districts. “As a step by the Bogor Regency government, since last month we have been making significant interventions. Ciseeng, Kemang, Parung, Rancabungur, and even Cariu Tanjung Sari, where the last normalisation may have been carried out five, ten, or even fifteen years ago,” he explained. In addition, the local government is also normalising irrigation flows, which includes organising areas and removing illegal buildings along the banks of the irrigation channels. “We are also carrying out normalisation to anticipate the dry season in the Cariu and Tanjung Sari areas, where there is approximately 700 to 800 hectares of rice fields,” he revealed. Furthermore, normalisation covering 200 hectares of fisheries land is also being conducted in the Ciseeng, Kemang, and Parung areas, along with restoring green zones to their proper state. “We are working together to protect the environment; rivers should remain rivers, forests should remain forests, and green zones must remain green zones,” he said. He also mentioned that new wells have been constructed and the water channelled to residents, though management still needs to be optimised. “Bogor has extraordinary water sources that have not been managed well, and we are not managing them as a business. Instead, we are piping these water sources to the homes of residents vulnerable to drought and preparing water tanks so that when water levels recede, many people will hopefully not be affected,” he concluded.
