Bogor Regency extends volcanic ash cleanup until next week

The Bogor Regency Government in West Java has extended volcanic ash cleanup activities in several areas until next week to minimise the impact on public activity.

Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto in Cibinong on Sunday said the cleanup is being carried out simultaneously by deploying the Fire and Rescue Service through all technical implementation units (UPT) in 40 districts.

“Fire and Rescue Service teams in all UPTs are working simultaneously to spray several main roads in 40 districts, and this will continue until the 7th, the 8th, and through next week,” Rudy said.

According to him, the measure is a follow-up to a series of meetings held by the Bogor Regency Government with regional apparatus organisations (OPD) to address the impact of volcanic ash in the Bogor Regency area.

The handling also involves elements of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri). The Bogor Police deployed an Armoured Water Cannon (AWC) vehicle to spray a number of roads to reduce airborne ash.

Meanwhile, the Bogor Military District Command (Kodim Bogor) also deployed a range of equipment, including fire engines, to assist with the spraying process.

In addition to carrying out the cleanup, the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) together with the regional government distributed free masks to the public on several main roads and at intersections.

The Bogor Regency Government, through the Health Office, will also optimise the distribution of masks to motorcyclists to reduce the risk of exposure to volcanic ash.

“Bogor is quite large, Bogor is quite big. We are also inviting the active participation of the private sector to directly assist affected communities in the Bogor Regency area,” he said.

In addition to the cleanup, the Bogor Regency Government is implementing distance learning (PJJ) for schools on 7-8 September 2026 as a measure to minimise students’ exposure to volcanic ash.

Although students will learn from home, Rudy has asked school principals and teachers to remain present at schools during those two days to jointly clean the school environment with support from the Bogor Regency Government.

The policy will be evaluated again by taking into account the development of conditions and the impact of volcanic ash in Bogor Regency.
