Bogor Regency, West Java (ANTARA) - The Bogor Regency Government (Pemkab) in West Java states that the crackdown on illegal parking in the Gelora Pakansari area has effectively reduced violation rates to around 5 per cent.

Head of the Traffic Division of the Bogor Regency Transportation Department, Dadang Kosasih, in Cibinong, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Sunday said the decrease in violations indicates increasing public awareness in complying with parking regulations.

The enforcement is carried out by the Transportation Department together with the Bogor Police Resort and Kodim 0621 as an effort to maintain order and public comfort, especially during weekends and car-free day (CFD) events.

“Those who frequently visit Pakansari now behave orderly and park their vehicles in the designated areas. This means the socialisation we have conducted has been very effective,” he said.

He explained that the enforcement is carried out gradually while still considering public activities. Officers only take action after the CFD event is underway to avoid disrupting residents who are exercising.

To increase discipline, the Transportation Department has begun implementing graduated sanctions against violators. Previously, only tyre deflation was done; in the future, vehicle towing and ticketing involving the police will be applied.

During the enforcement, officers acted against five vehicles found parked haphazardly, consisting of three motorcycles and two cars.

Dadang stated that the public’s response to the enforcement is considered positive. Community support is seen as one of the factors in the success of reducing violation numbers.

“There are no complaints; instead, the public support is extraordinary. This shows that public awareness is increasingly improving,” he said.

To strengthen these efforts, no-parking signs have been installed extensively with intervals of about 50 metres between points so they are easily visible to the public.

In addition, socialisation continues through various channels, including social media, to educate the public to utilise the available official parking areas.

The Bogor Regency Government is also organising the affected illegal parking attendants. Some have been recruited by official managers, while the rest are still in the discussion process.

On the other hand, traffic access engineering is also being prepared to anticipate surges in visitors, including plans to open barriers at several points so vehicles can directly enter the Pakansari area.

The Bogor Regency Government is optimistic that the Pakansari area can be fully orderly, safe, and comfortable as a public space for the community.
