Bogor Regency Begins Work on Seven Congested Intersections Along Puncak Route
The Bogor Regency government, West Java, has begun preparations to redesign seven intersections along the Puncak route in West Java, as an effort to tackle the frequent traffic jams in the area.
Bogor Regency Secretary Ajat Rochmat Jatnika stated that the redesign of these intersections is targeted to begin execution in 2026 in line with instructions from Regent Rudy Susmanto.
“The Regent has instructed that the redesign of several intersections along the Puncak route be executed as soon as possible this year,” said Ajat after a meeting on the arrangement of the Puncak tourist route in Cisarua on Friday.
He explained that the seven intersections targeted for redesign include Gadog Intersection, Pasir Muncang Intersection, Pasir Angin Intersection, Megamendung-Cipayung Intersection, Hankam Intersection, Cisarua Market Intersection, and Taman Safari Intersection.
According to Ajat, the redesign is based on input from various parties, ranging from the National Police Traffic Directorate, the Transportation Agency, to technical agencies such as Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), to ensure the measures are on target.
In addition to the physical redesign of the intersections, he continued, the government will also implement traffic engineering, including the possible installation of traffic lights and regulation of vehicle operating hours in the Puncak area.
Ajat added that improving safety is a primary concern, given the Puncak route’s still limited public street lighting (PJU) and susceptibility to accidents.
“Puncak is relatively dark, so PJU arrangements are needed to reduce accident risks,” he said.
He noted that the redesign requires cross-sectoral coordination because parts of the road are classified as national roads, thus necessitating synergy with the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Transportation.
“Since this is a national road, coordination must be carried out vertically and quickly with the relevant ministries,” he said.
In its implementation, the Bogor Regency government is also open to collaboration with the private sector, including contributions in the form of land provision or arrangement of areas around the intersections.
Ajat revealed that several business actors in the Puncak area have expressed readiness to contribute, either through land grants or cost-sharing schemes.
“This is a form of collaboration. There are entrepreneurs ready to assist with land acquisition or area arrangements, as the impact also benefits them,” he said.
Furthermore, the Bogor Regency government is promoting the opening of a new alternative route from Pasir Muncang to Sukagalih via Citeko to reduce the traffic load on the Puncak route.
According to Ajat, the construction of this alternative route will be carried out this year through the TNI community service scheme to accelerate the process.
He emphasised that the intersection redesign and alternative route development are part of the local government’s broader efforts to transform the face of the Puncak area, not only in terms of traffic smoothness but also comprehensive tourist area arrangements.
“The main point is that we want to change the face of the Puncak route, not only to make it smooth but also well-organised,” said Ajat.
