Bogor Ready to Build National Team Training Centre and International Sports Centre
INFO NASIONAL — Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto emphasised his commitment to accelerating the central government’s large-scale plan to develop the National Sports Academy, the National Team Training Centre, and an internationally standard sports centre in Ranca Bungur sub-district. The sports complex is planned to become one of the largest in the world.
He hopes the development will not only be a source of national pride but also create world-class athletes, open employment opportunities, and spur economic growth in the surrounding community.
‘The hope is that this development will not only be a source of national pride but also create jobs and drive economic growth for the local area,’ Rudy said at a coordinating meeting on the acceleration of the National Sports Priority Programme, at the Regent’s Pendopo, on Monday, 18 May 2026.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gunawan Suswantoro, said the National Sports Academy will be integrated with the education system from primary to senior secondary levels, specially prepared to train talented athletes for the world stage. ‘Inside it there will be a school and complete sports facilities. This is to prepare the best athletes from 21 sports disciplines designated by the President,’ he explained.
He explained that the central government has allocated land requirements of around 500 hectares to support the development of the area, which will be realised in stages over three years. ‘Planning will be conducted this year to ensure orderly development, then construction will start in 2027 to 2028, and is targeted to be completed in early 2029,’ he added.
On the location, Gunawan emphasised that the designation of the Ranca Bungur area is a direct decision of the President of the Republic of Indonesia. ‘The location is determined by the President. He chose Ranca Bungur as the development area,’ he said.
This integrated concept is expected to become a centre for national athlete development that meets international standards, capable of producing world-class athletes while building a sustainable education and sports development ecosystem.
In addition, the development is expected to strengthen Bogor Regency’s position as one of the strategic areas for national sports development in Indonesia under the coordination of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia.
