Bogor Primary School Implements Child-Friendly Orientation to Help Pupils Adapt

SD Negeri Cijayanti 4 in Bogor Regency, West Java, is implementing a welcoming Masa Pengenalan Lingkungan Sekolah (MPLS) to help new pupils adapt to a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable learning environment.

Teacher Syifa said on Thursday that the welcoming MPLS was designed so that new students could get to know the school environment gradually without fear or pressure.

“We want to create a pleasant atmosphere so that children feel happy, comfortable, and safe at school. There is no bullying, exclusion, or treatment that makes children feel unwelcome. Teachers also strive to provide the best service so they feel valued and loved,” she said.

According to her, this approach aims to build students’ self-confidence from the first day of school while creating a learning environment free from bullying and discrimination.

During the MPLS, pupils are introduced to teachers, classmates, and the school environment through various creative activities packaged with a learning-while-playing concept.

One of the activities involved making hats from simple materials and used items such as balls and cardboard. This activity not only trained creativity but also introduced environmental awareness from an early age.

Syifa expressed hope that the warm learning atmosphere would make pupils feel comfortable at school, allowing the adaptation process to take place more quickly.

“Our hope is that the children feel happy, comfortable, and at home at school as if they were in their own house. They feel protected, cared for, and receive affection from teachers and their friends. With such an atmosphere, children can learn while playing and grow into confident individuals,” she said.

Meanwhile, parent Sri Malini assessed that the welcoming MPLS concept was able to increase children’s enthusiasm for learning through creative and enjoyable activities.

“In my opinion, this MPLS activity is good. The children become more creative, for example making hats from balls. This is a new experience, so the children are more enthusiastic and creative,” she said.

The implementation of the welcoming MPLS at SD Negeri Cijayanti 4 is part of efforts to create a child-friendly school while supporting the Bogor Regency Government’s commitment to improving education quality through positive learning experiences for new pupils.
