A fire at a poultry farm in Bogor Regency is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in the heating device for day-old chicks (DOC). The blaze destroyed thousands of newly hatched chicks, as well as around a dozen sheep and several motorcycles. ‘This morning at around 2:00 AM I and my colleagues went to the scene. The fire was indeed suspected to have originated from the heating for the chicks. It is true, suspected to be a short circuit,’ said Agus Hidayat, the Cariu Police Chief, on Tuesday (19 May 2026). ‘(Losses) are estimated to be up to Rp 500 million. (Details) 60,000 DOC dead, 13 sheep dead, 5 motorcycles, 10 tons of chicken feed, 2 generator sets and the shed burned,’ he added.

Dugaan Penyebab Kebakaran

Separately contacted, Bogor Regency Fire Department Chief Yudi Santosa said residents reported the fire occurred around 02:28 WIB. The fire was suspected to be caused by an electrical short circuit that produced sparks and caused a large blaze. ‘The object burned is a poultry farm. There were no casualties or injuries. The source of the fire or the cause is electrical short circuit,’ Yudi said. ‘The chronology is that an electrical short circuit occurred in the area of the poultry farm, and sparks from the short circuit ignited materials easily flammable, such as paddy husk, and spread to the entire building,’ he added.

Two fire units from Sector Cariu were deployed to the scene. The firefighting team faced difficulties due to the distance and terrain, as the road is steep and winding. ‘The team experienced difficulties because the distance and terrain were quite long and extreme, with steep ascents and descents, so the response time did not meet the target,’ Yudi said. ‘After arriving at the scene, the team immediately conducted handling and tracing the fire source with the roof of the poultry farm, made of corrugated metal, having collapsed and levelled. With proper handling, the fire could be controlled and extinguished,’ he added. (sol/mea)
