Bogor police seek gang for murder and robbery

BOGOR (JP): Leuwiliang Police remained puzzled on Monday on the whereabouts of a group of eight robbers who killed a resident and threw an infant out of a window during a robbery two days ago.

"We're still in the dark about their identity and whereabouts. The investigation is still going on," an officer, who asked not to be named, said on Monday.

The robbery took place on Saturday morning at a shop-house belonging to Sahudin, 45, in Kampung Nanggul, Bantar Karet village in Nanggung.

Sahudin was found dead. Forensic experts at Bogor's Red Cross Hospital (PMI) said the man suffered at least 17 stab wounds in different areas of his body.

Sahudin's daughter, Kusna, 18 months, suffered only slight injuries after being thrown out of the house by one of the robbers.

Sahudin's wife, Inah, said the robber became angry after Kusna burst into tears with the strangers' sudden intrusion during the early morning hours.

"Eight of them barged into my house at 1 a.m. They tied up my nephew Pendi and his four friends, who were all staying at our house then," she said.

Pendi's friends were Soleh, Ahmad, Maman and Dodo.

"After tying them up, the robbers dragged me and Sahudin out of the house. This upset my baby, who started to cry. One of the men became irritated and threw her out the window," Inah recalled.

"My baby didn't make any sound after that," she said, adding that Kusna had fainted.

After the robbers dragged Sahudin outside, they beat his kneecaps until he fell down.

Sahudin fought back until one robber slashed his neck with a sharp weapon.

Although Sahudin was dead, the robbers took turns stabbing other parts of his body, Inah said.

When the robbers turned to her, Inah hastily handed over Rp 1.5 million (US$220) in an effort to stop further violence.

The crooks demanded more and searched the house to look for more cash and other valuable items.

"But I explained to them that it was all I had," Inah said.

The robbers left the scene after taking several jewelry pieces. In total, the family lost Rp 4 million.

Sahudin's body was taken by his family to his hometown at Kampung Mekar Harapan in Bojong Petir village, Cianjur, on the same day for burial. (21/ylt)
