Bogor Police, in cooperation with the National Police’s Directorate of Police Animals, have deployed a sniffer dog team (K-9) to hunt down a dozen boar-hunting dogs that escaped from their handler during an incident in which a child was fatally mauled in Jasinga, Bogor, West Java. The hunt was launched to quell public anxiety and ensure residents’ safety. “We fully understand the current concerns of the Jasinga community. Therefore, to allay residents’ fears, we have coordinated with the National Police and today launched a joint team from the Baharkam Police Animals Directorate with two K-9s, Bogor Police, and Jasinga Police,” said Bogor Police Chief AKBP Wikha Ardilestanto on Thursday (11/6/2026). Wikha stated that a total of 12 hunting dogs were confirmed to have escaped from their handler at the time of the incident where a child was fatally bitten by the dogs. As of now, four have been secured and the remainder are still being pursued. “Based on reports from local residents, around 12 hunting dogs are detected to have escaped. To date, the joint team has successfully captured four, and it is estimated that approximately six more dogs are still in the pursuit process within the search radius,” Wikha said. “Law enforcement through the naming of a suspect by the PPA Unit is already underway, and total security on the ground by deploying K-9s is also being intensively carried out. We ensure the Police are fully present, both for justice for the victim and for the psychological security of Jasinga’s residents,” he added. Wikha stated that the intensive search and patrol operation is focused on the area of Sipak Village, Jasinga District, Bogor Regency. The joint team deployed consists of one squad of 10 personnel from the National Police’s Baharkam Animals Directorate, with two specialist sniffer dogs (K-9), supported by one squad of Bogor Police personnel and six personnel from Jasinga Police. “Our current focus is combing Sipak Village to secure the remaining escaped hunting dogs. Once caught, the dogs will be immediately evacuated to the National Police’s Animal Directorate so that the community environment is safe again,” Wikha said. Previously, a nine-year-old boy died after being mauled by boar-hunting dogs while fishing in Jasinga, Bogor, on Sunday (7/6) afternoon. During the investigation, Bogor Police temporarily detained 57 witnesses and boar hunters for questioning. Based on the evidence, the owner of the dogs that attacked and fatally bit the victim was named a suspect. Head of PPA/PPO Unit of Bogor Police, AKP Silfi Adi Putri, stated on Wednesday (10/6/2026) that the four hunting dogs that attacked the boy in Jasinga District were reported to have died simultaneously inside a car. They are suspected to have died from lack of oxygen. “The information is that because they were kept inside the car, tied up, the car was closed, so there was no oxygen inside. Yes, four dogs died,” Silfi said. The dogs were put into the car after attacking the victim. They likely died simultaneously due to oxygen deprivation inside the vehicle. “Regarding the condition of the dogs, when the dogs that mauled the victim were secured, they were then put into a car. While the dogs were inside the car, the car was possibly not turned on, causing the death of the dogs,” Silfi said.
