Sr. Comr. Bambang Wasgito (left, wearing glasses) lowers his head as chief of West Java Provincial Police Insp. Gen. Edi Darnadi hugs his successor Sr. Comr. Bambang Tjiptono. Wasgito was officially replaced on Friday as chief of Bogor Police after he was accused of assaulting his subordinate Adj. First Insp. Wawan Setiawan.

Tjiptono, Wasgito's successor, was Jakarta Police spokesman.

While waiting for a police tribunal slated to be held by West Java Police, Wasgito will assume a non-commission post at the Indonesian Police Headquarters in Jakarta.

"The Indonesian Police Headquarters are questioning witnesses in the case and after the questioning, the case will be heard before police judges at West Java Police Headquarters," said Edi Darnadi after leading the replacement ceremony at West Java police headquarters.

The case surfaced after media reports that the senior police officer allegedly attacked his subordinate Wawan, the chief of intelligence section at North Bogor Police subprecinct on Saturday last week.

The dispute between Wasgito and Wawan began when Tri Rianto Andika Putra, Wasgito's son, was attacked by an unidentified person on Saturday afternoon. The event was witnessed by Wawan and Wawan quickly calmed them down. Rian, as Wasgito's son is popularly called, was enraged that Wawan did not defend him.

Rian reported the case to his father and the furious senior police officer summoned Wawan and attacked him and demanded that Wawan disclose Rian's foe. Wawan, who suffered from bruises on his lip, chest and back, was rushed to hospital unconscious.
