Bogor military has new chief
BOGOR, West Java (JP): The Bogor regency has a new military chief, Lt. Col. Widji Utomo, who has vowed to punish soldiers found frequenting nightspots or dealing in illegal drugs.
"There will be no special treatment for those who violate the law," he told The Jakarta Post yesterday.
He said the first step to be taken will be an internal investigation. The next step will be to monitor the activities of discos, hotels and other places suspected of being used for drug deals.
Bogor has reportedly become a common place for Ecstasy transactions, he said. "I've received information that a nightspot in Cisarua is currently being used for drug-related activities."
Utomo was installed as the new Bogor military chief on Wednesday, replacing Lt. Col. Agus Mulyadi, who has been given a new post with the Udayana Military Command in Bali.
Utomo, who graduated from the Military Academy in 1976, has held several posts in the Pattimura Military Command in Maluku province, and the Siliwangi Military Command in West Java.
The father of three children, Utomo was born in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Aug. 11, 1953. (21/25)
