Bogor Mayor Saddened as 1,929 Elderly Pilgrims Must Wait 29 Years for Hajj

Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim revealed that around 1,929 prospective Hajj pilgrims from Bogor City are elderly. This is a particular concern because the waiting period for Hajj extends up to 29 years. Dedie feels saddened that these elderly individuals must wait 29 years to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. “With a 29-year wait, we are concerned about our 1,929 elderly; we feel sad too because one never knows how long they will live,” Dedie explained at the Great Mosque of Bogor on Saturday (2/5/2026). He acknowledged that a 29-year waiting period is quite burdensome and hopes the Indonesian government can shorten it. “And with the wait of 29 years, hopefully future Saudi government policies will allow the Indonesian government to expedite it,” he stated.
