Bogor man nearly mobbed after phone theft at Vespa club event
The suspect apprehended was identified as FZP, also known as Febi (25), a KFC employee from Senen, Central Jakarta, said Sukaraja Police Chief AKP Ade Rahmat on Sunday (24 May 2026). Ade stated that Febi was detained during a body search of attendees leaving the event venue on Saturday (23 May) afternoon. The search was conducted after numerous reports of stolen mobile phones. “Due to multiple reports of missing phones, the event organisers conducted body searches. During the search, one attendee was found carrying a stolen mobile phone,” Ade said. “A crowd then became agitated due to the numerous phone thefts, and the suspect was immediately taken to the security office,” he added. Ade added that a crowd gathered and attempted to take justice into their own hands against the suspect who was in a patrol car, but police intervened and evacuated him to Bogor Regional Police headquarters for further processing. “As the patrol car carrying the suspect was about to leave the mall, a crowd who learned of his presence tried to attack him inside the vehicle but were prevented. I was inside the car at the time,” Ade said. “However, some individuals attempted to chase the patrol car, causing damage to parts of the vehicle. The suspect, along with three stolen phones as evidence, was subsequently secured at Bogor Regional Police headquarters,” he added.
