PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has stated that the Bogor-Jakarta City Commuter Line (KRL) will eventually use 12-car trainsets exclusively. The process of converting all Bogor-Jakarta trains to 12-car formations is being carried out in stages.

“All the train orders are for 12-car sets, and their arrival will be gradual, so everything must be prepared, including platforms and other infrastructure such as platform capacity, electricity, and services,” said KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, on Sunday (12/7/2026).

Currently, some trains on this red line route already use 12-car formations, but not all. Some still consist of 8 and 10 cars. “Going forward, all KRL procurement will be for 12-car sets,” she stated.

Anne explained that the 12-car trains are currently being manufactured by PT INKA (Industri Kereta Api). Because train production takes time, the implementation of 12-car KRL sets on the red line is being done gradually. “The fulfilment of the rolling stock is phased and is still under production at INKA,” she noted.

Platform extensions are currently underway at Bogor Station to accommodate 12-car trains. The station development is targeted for completion by the end of the month. “Currently, platforms 6, 7, and 8 at Bogor Station are in the final stages. We are aiming for completion this month, and trials were conducted recently. If all trials are successful, they will immediately serve the red line commuter service,” she said.
