Bogor hookers arrested

BOGOR (JP): Bogor police arrested 167 prostitutes, 14 alleged customers and two brothel operators in a raid on several places in three districts on Tuesday.

Bogor City Police chief Supt. Bambang Wasgito told reporters on Wednesday that the people were picked up from street stalls, hotels, villas and karaoke halls.

"They were charged with disturbing public order," Bambang said. He did not say what punishment the people would get for the offense.

The operations were held following tips from locals. "We want prostitutes' activities to gradually stop prior to the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan, which falls in December."

He said the next target would be illicit gambling dens and the illegal sale of alcohol." (21/sur)
