Bogor gets new police chief

BOGOR (JP): Lt. Col. Edmon Ilyas was installed yesterday as
the new chief of Bogor City Police, replacing Lt. Col. Zaenal
Abidin.

Bogor Police chief Col. Dadang Garnida, who presided over the
ceremony at local police headquarters, urged the new chief to
improve on the successes of his predecessor in maintaining
security in Bogor.

"You have to be consistently improving police vigilance
against developments in the area, including its impact on
security," he said.

Ilyas, who graduated from the Police Academy in 1981, was the
chief of Dili Police, Andir Police in Bandung and the head of
Bandung's detective unit.

Abidin, who graduated from the Police Academy in 1973, will
become a law advisor at the Semarang Police Academy. (24)
