Bogor gets new military chief
BOGOR (JP): Chief of the Suryakencana Bogor military resort, Brig. Gen. Eddi Budianto, handed over his post to Col. Soeprapto yesterday.
The installation ceremony was led by West Java/Siliwangi Military Commander Brig. Gen. Purwadi.
Eddy has been assigned as an officer at the Jakarta-based Coordinating Agency for Maintenance of National Stability.
Soeprapto is a former officer at the Infantry College Center in the West Java capital of Bandung.
In his speech, Purwadi called on the local officers to monitor any existing social problems and take immediate action if possible to prevent incidents which might prompt instability and hamper development in the area.
"This area is much influenced by Jakarta problems. All that happened in Jakarta could happen here," he said.
Bogor is a 45-minute drive from the capital.
He said several problems, such as land disputes, labor issues and student demonstrations, which occurred in Jakarta also sometimes emerged in the area.
"If the problems cannot be anticipated, it could affect security," he said.
Soeprapto pledged to immediately realize his superior's orders.
"I would approach society leaders and students to help improve stability and security in the area," he said. (24/jun)
