Bogor focus on solving traffic jams

BOGOR: The Sepur Pakuan overpass connecting the Baranangsiang toll road and the Bogor Agriculture Institute campus in Baranangsiang, was opened by Bogor Mayor Iswara Natanegara on Wednesday.

"We expect the alternative road will reduce heavy traffic on Jl. Pajajaran, especially around the Baranangsiang bus terminal," Iswara said. The city paid Rp 2.8 billion (US$329,411) to construct the road, he said

The road provides short cuts from the Vila Duta housing estate to the Warung Jambu and the Bantarjati housing area.

Iswara said his office had yet to solve traffic congestion in the town "because the existing infrastructure can only accommodate 5 percent of about 40,000 vehicles traversing the town every day".

The administration in the future will construct more overpasses and widen the existing roads. -- JP
