Bogor Floods: Hundreds of Families Affected as Homes Collapse
Hundreds of homes were flooded due to the Cijayanti River overflowing in Cijayanti Village, Babakanmadang Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java. M. Adam Hamdan, Head of the Emergency and Logistics Section of Bogor Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), stated that 138 households (456 people) were affected. One house in RT 03 RW 01 belonging to resident Enjuh collapsed, forcing its two occupants to evacuate to a relative’s home in the same area. Adam explained that the flooding occurred after prolonged heavy rainfall caused the river to overflow into residential areas. ‘Due to prolonged heavy rainfall, the Cijayanti River overflowed, impacting residential areas,’ he said, citing Antara on Sunday (24/5). The flooding began around 5.15 PM WIB in Babakan Cicerewed Hamlet, affecting several RTs in RW 01, 02, 06, and 09 of Cijayanti Village, with water levels ranging from 70cm to 150cm. BPBD confirmed no casualties or lives threatened, with urgent needs for emergency logistics assistance. By Sunday evening, floodwaters had begun receding, and residents were working with joint teams to clear mud and standing water from homes. Dozens of homes were damaged by strong winds in Tamansari Village. Adam reported 90 homes affected, with seven moderately damaged and 83 slightly damaged. The incident occurred during heavy rainfall and strong winds around 2.30 PM WIB on Sunday. ‘High rainfall and strong winds caused damage to several homes, particularly roofs and tiles,’ Adam said. Affected homes were in Parakanomas Hamlet, RT 01, 02, and 03, RW 01, Tamansari Village. BPBD noted moderate damage included collapsed walls and roofs carried away by wind, while minor damage mainly involved roof tiles blown off. Two families (10 people) evacuated to relatives’ homes due to severe roof damage. No casualties or injuries were reported, and some residents began repairing their homes independently.
