A gang of robbers operating under the guise of fake investments in the Babakan Madang area of Bogor, West Java, used counterfeit money in their crimes. The perpetrators employed fake notes to entice victims into investing.

The Rp100,000 denomination notes filled a suitcase seized as evidence in the robbery case. This was the money purportedly to be handed over to the victims.

“The suitcase containing toy money, where the funds were intended to lure the victim with the promise of a threefold return,” said Babakan Madang Police Chief AKP Trias Karso Yuliantoro on Tuesday (7/4/2026).

The perpetrators had carried out their actions more than once. Their modus operandi was always the same: offering potential victims investment opportunities in a business with promises of high returns.

“The nature of the business is still under investigation,” he revealed.

The suspects had committed similar crimes in Kemang sub-district. The total profits reaped by the gang from several operations amounted to nearly Rp400 million.

“The perpetrators’ profits are around Rp300 million… with gold nearly Rp400 million,” he stated.

Four Suspects Arrested

Previously, police arrested the gang of robbers posing as fake investment operators in the Babakan Madang area of Bogor, West Java. Four suspects were apprehended by investigators.

“Our investigation successfully secured four suspected perpetrators,” said Babakan Madang Police Chief AKP Trias Karso Yuliantoro.

The victim, a man with initials T, was robbed by the perpetrators on Thursday, 18 March 2026, in Cijayanti Village. The four suspects had different roles in the case.

“The first suspect, MF, acted as the victim scout or ‘patient’. The second, suspect YS, handled taking the money. The third, suspect N, provided a black Calya vehicle. The fourth, suspect A, served as an assistant or driver for the perpetrators,” he explained.

“Currently, all suspects from the examination have had their status elevated to suspects based on sufficient evidence,” Trias added.
