Bogor Environmental Agency Sanctions Illegal Waste Burner in Cikeas, Orders Cleanup

The Bogor Regency Environmental Agency (DLH) has taken action following a fire at an illegal waste disposal site (TPS) in Cikeas, which has been producing thick smoke since last week. The perpetrator has been sanctioned and is required to clean the location and restore the land that was used for dumping waste.

‘The perpetrator of the illegal waste burning at RT 02/RW 03, Kampung Kadupugur, Cikeas Udik Village, has agreed to sign a statement and committed not to repeat the act in the future,’ said Riri Agustina, Head of Environmental Law Enforcement and B3 Waste Management at DLH Bogor Regency, on Thursday. ‘If this statement is violated, the individual is willing to accept sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations without any claims or objections,’ she continued.

Riri stated that the current priority is handling the fire and the resulting smoke impact. Additionally, the village government has been asked to immediately record residents who are potentially suffering from Acute Respiratory Infections (ISPA) due to the waste fire. ‘We have asked the village to record any surrounding residents affected by ISPA due to this fire incident. Subsequently, through the Gunung Putri District Government, a letter should be sent to the Health Agency to request health services for the affected residents,’ Riri explained.

Riri emphasised that the fire location is an illegal or unlicensed TPS. Consequently, the site is now threatened with total closure. ‘Yes, it is an illegal TPS. Because it does not comply with regulations, its activities will be closed or stopped,’ Riri asserted.

It was previously reported that the TPS in Cikeas Udik Village, Gunung Putri District, Bogor Regency, experienced a severe fire. The fire, which has been burning since last week, had previously been extinguished, but smoke has now resurfaced. ‘The waste fire in Cikeas occurred on 8 July, and the handling was only completed yesterday on 14 July. We were constrained by the terrain because it is located on the banks of the Cikeas River,’ said Lukman Habibi, Deputy Commander of the Gunung Putri Fire Sector, on Thursday. Lukman added that the fire triggered thick smoke that disturbed the comfort of residents in nearby housing complexes. Although the fire was declared extinguished on Tuesday (14/7/2026), smoke was reported to be billowing from the waste pile again today.
