Bogor DPRD: 'Bogorku Bersih' Programme Must Evolve into a Civilisation, Not Just a Competition

Eka Wardhana, a member of the Bogor City DPRD, has stated that the ‘Bogorku Bersih’ programme is no longer just a competition but has evolved into a new civilisation and a community identity for preserving the environment in the Rain City. ‘The waste problem in Bogor City is a real challenge that continues to grow along with the increasing population. We can no longer use old methods. The old paradigm of relying solely on the collect, transport, and dump pattern to the Final Disposal Site (TPA) must be abandoned immediately,’ said Eka Wardhana during the Bogorku Bersih Workshop held at the Paseban Sri Baduga Hall, Bogor City Hall, on Tuesday, 14 July 2026.

To address this challenge, Eka emphasised two main focuses that must be implemented simultaneously by all elements of society and the local government. The first focus is the importance of radically reducing waste directly at the source. He explained that the key to successful waste management does not lie at the TPA but starts at the household level, offices, and the initial points where waste is produced. ‘The key to success is in our own kitchens, on our office desks, and at the upstream points where waste is produced. The Bogor City DPRD itself continues to encourage the strengthening of regulations and budget policies that favour community-based waste management,’ said Eka.

He added that waste reduction at the source can be achieved through reduction movements, disciplined sorting of organic and inorganic waste, and maximising the role of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Processing Sites (TPS3R) at the sub-district level. ‘If we succeed in containing and managing waste upstream, we have saved the future of this city’s environment by fifty percent,’ he continued. The second focus, Eka stated, is the need for a realistic and visionary approach to dealing with residual waste that cannot be processed upstream. Bogor City is currently moving forward with a plan to build environmentally friendly technological infrastructure, namely Waste-to-Energy Processing (PSEL).

‘PSEL technology is a modern solution that will transform the burden of the waste problem into a beneficial energy asset. Through this workshop, I ask all elements of society, especially the cadres present today, to become extensions of information in socialising PSEL,’ he said. Eka explained that public education is crucial so that the community understands that PSEL is not just an ordinary waste incinerator but an integrated and environmentally friendly management system. The success of this technology is highly dependent on the consistency of waste sorting from home. ‘PSEL will run optimally if the waste sent has been properly sorted from the household,’ he explained. Therefore, Eka affirmed the DPRD’s commitment as a legislative body to always oversee, provide regulatory support, and ensure that the environmental management budget remains a regional priority. However, he reminded that the best regulations would be paralysed without active community participation. ‘Let us make this workshop a real momentum to unite our steps. Reduce waste from our homes, support the PSEL technology innovation, and together let us bring Bogor City towards a truly clean, green, and sustainable city,’ said Eka.
