Bogor develops 156 hectares of urban forest in four months
The Bogor Regency Government in West Java has developed an urban forest spanning 156.44 hectares, with 45,152 trees planted, within a four-month period since the beginning of 2026.
Regent Rudy Susmanto stated in Cibinong on Tuesday that the urban forest development serves as a concrete measure to address climate change challenges while strengthening environmental resilience in the region.
“If more than one hectare, that’s very good. Meanwhile, for villages or sub-districts, there must be at least a green area as part of environmental strengthening,” he said.
This accelerated greening programme is outlined in the Regent’s Instruction Number 100.4.4.2/910-DLH on Planting One Hectare of Urban Forest in Every Sub-district, issued on 31 December 2025.
“What we plant today is not for ourselves, but for our children and grandchildren. God creates humans every second, but the world is only once. We start from the land we tread, Bogor Regency, for a better Indonesia,” he said.
To ensure the programme’s sustainability, the Bogor Regency Government has launched the routine “Planting Tuesdays” movement, carried out weekly in various areas.
Through this movement, tree planting is conducted consistently so that the urban forest area continues to expand and its ecological benefits are increasingly felt by the community.
Additionally, support comes from regional work units and regional-owned enterprises as sponsoring agencies that assist in providing seedlings as well as facilities and infrastructure.
The Bogor Regency Government also encourages business participation through corporate social responsibility (CSR/TJSL) schemes to strengthen the financing of the greening programme.
The types of trees planted include fast-growing species, endemic plants, as well as trees with economic and conservation value to support ecosystem balance.
This tree planting programme will reach its peak in the Simultaneous Planting Event across Bogor Regency, scheduled for 5 June 2026, coinciding with World Environment Day.
