Bogor Customs Seize 286,000 Illegal Cigarettes in Operation Maung Padjajaran
The Bogor Customs Office seized 286,752 illegal cigarettes during Operation “Maung Padjajaran”, conducted from 22-28 April 2026 across several areas under its supervision, namely the City of Bogor, Bogor Regency, Depok City, and Sukabumi Regency.
The Head of the Bogor Customs Office, Chotibul Umam, stated that this is an effort by the Bogor Customs Office to increase compliance among excisable goods entrepreneurs and to suppress the circulation of illegal excisable goods, particularly cigarettes without excise stamps or with non-compliant excise stamps.
“The supervision locations in this Operation ‘Maung Padjajaran’ were focused on main distribution points, such as markets, retail shops, to consignment service companies that often serve as channels for illegal excisable goods,” said Chotibul in a statement on Thursday (7/5/2026).
He mentioned that Bogor Customs officers successfully conducted 25 enforcement actions during the operation, with the seized goods totalling 286,752 illegal cigarettes. The overall value of the prevented goods is estimated at Rp 462 million, with a potential state revenue loss of Rp 214 million.
This finding serves as the basis for the Bogor Customs Office to continue strengthening supervision and law enforcement in the excise sector.
These efforts are carried out through improved mapping and analysis of violation potentials, enhanced supervision along distribution routes, strengthened socialisation and education to the public, as well as reinforced coordination with other law enforcement agencies to suppress the circulation of illegal excisable goods.
In addition to enforcement, officers provided education to business actors and the public regarding the characteristics of illegal cigarettes. This education covers how to recognise cigarettes without excise stamps, fake excise stamps, reuse of old excise stamps, as well as misuse of excise stamps for unintended purposes and incorrect personalisation.
“Through Operation ‘Maung Padjajaran’, the Bogor Customs Office hopes to provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators while increasing public awareness not to buy or distribute illegal excisable goods,” Chotibul concluded.
