Bogor Civil Servant Missing in Cisadane River for Nearly a Week
Joint personnel are still searching for Bayu Zulkarnaen (36), a civil servant (ASN) with the Bogor City Government (Pemkot), who is believed to have fallen into the Cisadane River. The search has been ongoing for nearly a week.
On Tuesday (18/8/2026), the search for the victim entered its sixth day. The joint search and rescue (SAR) team is still looking for the victim by expanding the search area.
“He has not been found, there are no signs (of the victim’s whereabouts). Our SAR colleagues are still making efforts today, the search process is still ongoing,” said Dimas Tiko Prahadi Sasongko, Head of the Bogor City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
In addition to sweeping on land, SAR personnel are also diving to search beneath the Cisadane Bridge, which is believed to be the initial point where the victim fell. The bridge is located in Gang Amil, Cipaku, South Bogor, Bogor City.
The search is focused on the Cisadane Bridge, which connects Cipaku and Pamoyanan sub-districts. At the time, only the victim’s motorcycle was found at the location.
The victim is believed to have fallen into the river on Thursday (13/8) at around 7.00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. The search has also been expanded to Empang Weir, approximately 4.5 kilometres from the initial location.
“Today our colleagues are still conducting dives, and there are also those sweeping as far as Empang Weir,” said Dimas.
“Diving is still being carried out at the initial point where the victim is believed to have fallen, or under the bridge where the victim’s motorcycle was found. However, after several dives, there have been no visible signs of the victim,” he added.
Dimas said that search efforts will continue to be carried out maximally until the seventh day, in accordance with SAR standard operating procedures. The joint SAR team will hold an evaluation meeting on the seventh day of the SAR operation to determine the next steps if the victim has not been found.
“So that is the update on the search up to the sixth day. Perhaps we will evaluate again ahead of the final day of the search according to the SOP, as the SOP stipulates a seven-day search period,” he said.
Bogor Mayor Dedie A Rachim visited the search site to review the process. Dedie ensured that the joint SAR team would maximise the search until Bayu is found.
“Formally, we must carry out the operation maximally for seven days, and we have done so for four days now. But as of this afternoon, at 4.23 p.m., there have been no results,” said Dedie after reviewing the location on Sunday (16/8).
Dedie said there is little chance that Bayu was swept away by the current if he fell into the river. According to him, the water level is low and there are many nets in the downstream area.
“For now, the chance of him being swept away is small, because the weather is in the dry season and the water level is relatively low. That is why we are trying to concentrate here first. So we will maximise efforts here first; if he is not found today, we will try to shift our operational strategy downstream,” said Dedie.
The victim is believed to have fallen while returning home from work on Thursday (13/8) at around 7.00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time. The victim is believed to have fallen while crossing the bridge, which he used every day and which is quite steep.
“He was returning home from work. He happened to be a civil servant with the Bogor City Government at the Regional Archives and Library Agency,” said Dimas.
“Yes, looking at the chronology, the bridge is a motorbike route, and the descent is quite steep. His daily commute to and from work was via this bridge,” he added.
The victim is believed to have fallen into the river. The victim’s motorcycle was found lying on the bridge, while the victim’s bag was found floating in the river within a 100-metre radius of the point where he fell.
“His motorcycle was found lying on the bridge, and his helmet and bag were on the surface of the water about 100 metres from the suspected point of the fall,” he explained.
