Grief has enveloped the Bogor City Government and the family of Bayu Zulkarnain, a civil servant who was swept away in the Cisadane River. Bayu is believed to have fallen from a steep bridge over the Cisadane River while returning home from work.

The incident occurred on Thursday (13/8) at around 19.00 WIB in Cipaku, South Bogor. At the time, the victim was crossing a bridge over the Cisadane River after work.

“He was returning home from work. He happened to be a civil servant of the Bogor City Government at the Regional Archives and Library Office,” said the Head of the Bogor City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Dimas Tiko Prahadisasongko.

The victim is believed to have fallen while crossing the steep bridge. The bridge was also regularly used by the victim on a daily basis.

“Yes, looking at the chronology, the bridge is a motorbike route, and the descent is quite steep. His daily commute did indeed pass over this bridge,” he said.

Tiko suspects that because of the steep descent, the victim fell into the river. The suspicion is reinforced by the condition of the motorbike found lying on the bridge, as well as the victim’s bag floating in the river.

“His motorbike was found lying on top of the bridge, and his helmet and bag were found on the water surface about 100 metres from the suspected point of the fall,” he said.

The search for Bayu Zulkarnain, who is believed to have fallen into the Cisadane River, continued today. Joint SAR personnel have been searching since this morning.

“This morning, the third day of the SAR operation has begun,” said Dimas Tiko.

Today’s search was carried out using diving and river sweeping methods. Dimas Tiko said the search radius for the victim has been expanded since the first day.

“We are still carrying out diving and sweeping efforts. As of yesterday, from point zero to around 600 metres, and today it has been extended,” he explained.

Bogor Mayor Dedie Rachim also expressed concern over the incident in which Bayu Zulkarnain was swept away after allegedly falling into the Cisadane River. He hopes the victim can be found soon.

“We are concerned about this incident and hope that our colleague Bayu will be found soon,” said Dedie.

He said that based on field reports as of 12.00 WIB this afternoon, the victim was still being searched for. Joint SAR personnel are working hard to find Bayu.

“The BPBD head’s report stated that there were no eyewitnesses at the location at the time of the incident, the motorbike was on the bridge protected by an iron fence, but the helmet and laptop were found in the Cisadane River area,” he said.
