Bogor City Regulation on Public Transport Offers Option to Convert Unfit Angkots into Pickup Trucks

The Bogor City Government has revealed an option to convert city transport vehicles (angkots) that are no longer roadworthy into pickup trucks. Head of the Transportation Division of the Bogor City Transportation Agency, Dody Wahyudin, stated that they are awaiting final discussions with Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim. Nevertheless, the public transport regulation has already been discussed with the Bogor City Regional Secretary and Deputy Mayor. “We’re just waiting for the final discussion with the mayor,” Dody said when contacted on Monday (11/5/2026). There is then an option to change the form into a pickup truck. “Ultimately, those that are 20 years old can no longer operate. They can be scrapped, re-registered as private vehicles, or have their form changed—changing the form to a pickup truck is possible,” he explained. Dody stated that the conversion to a pickup truck form is based on the owner’s wishes. For instance, angkots that are 20 years old and unfit for operation can be converted into pickups or scrapped. “Depending on the owner’s preference, they can be scrapped, re-registered as private, or converted into a pickup,” he said. As background, this mayoral regulation is a derivative of Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2013, Number 10 of 2019, and Number 8 of 2023, which remain in effect, with vehicle age management serving as the basis for improving the safety of public transport services for the community. Previously, Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim revealed that he is still considering the finalisation of the Mayoral Regulation on public transport. He continued that they are still aligning with regulations at the West Java Provincial Government level regarding public transport. “So we want to synchronise, but the main point is to issue the public transport regulation as soon as possible. We discussed it yesterday with the provincial transportation agency; it’s already settled with the ministry and is being harmonised at the regional office. So it’s in process,” Dedie explained in Tanah Sareal, Bogor City, on Thursday (30/4/2026).
