Bogor City Minibuses Continue Operating During Eid Holiday, Residents Resign to Traffic Congestion
Bogor, 9 March 2026 — Several Bogor City residents have expressed resignation at facing potential traffic congestion during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday break, following the continued operation of minibuses (angkot) in the city.
A 26-year-old Bogor resident named Permana said he had to accept the reality that traffic congestion would occur on several roads in Bogor City during the Eid holiday.
“So as members of the public, whether we like it or not, we have to endure it — whether it’s congestion or not, that’s just how it is,” Permana told Kompas.com in Bogor on Monday.
Nevertheless, Permana hoped that the Bogor City Government could find solutions to prevent congestion from recurring every Eid holiday.
“But personally, I don’t want to let this happen. This phenomenon repeats itself year after year. The government could find solutions instead of forcing the public to adapt to this phenomenon,” he said.
Another resident, 23-year-old Yusuf, said he was always prepared to face traffic congestion in Bogor City during the Eid holiday. However, he still hoped that traffic conditions could improve.
“As always, I’m always ready, but if you ask whether I want it, clearly I don’t,” Yusuf told Kompas.com on Monday.
Permana identified one cause of congestion in Bogor City as the large number of minibuses that frequently stop or wait for passengers (ngetem) indiscriminately. He believed that minibus operations should be temporarily halted during the Eid al-Fitr holiday break.
Yusuf expressed similar sentiments, hoping that minibuses in Bogor City would also be given a holiday during the Eid break. However, he acknowledged that private vehicles also contributed to congestion in Bogor City.
“Perhaps private vehicles are also a cause of congestion in Bogor City, but I think 70–80 per cent of congestion in Bogor City is caused by minibuses that don’t follow regulations — stopping and waiting for passengers anywhere they please,” he explained.
Sujatmiko Baliarto, head of the Bogor City Transportation Office (Dishub), stated that minibuses in Bogor City would continue operating during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday break.
