Bogor City Government to trial right-side parking on Suryakencana starting 21 April

Bogor City (ANTARA) - The Bogor City Government in West Java, through the Transportation Department (Dishub), will trial moving the parking positions from the left side to the right side on Jalan Suryakencana and Siliwangi starting 21 April 2026.

The Head of the Bogor City Transportation Department, Sujatmiko Baliarto, in Bogor on Thursday, stated that this policy stems from discussions in a traffic forum as part of arranging vehicle flow in the area.

“In order to arrange traffic along Jalan Suryakencana and Siliwangi, we will move the parking positions that were previously on the left side to the right side,” said Sujatmiko.

He explained that technically, the Suryakencana road segment has a one-way pattern, so placing parking on either the left or right side does not pose an issue in terms of traffic engineering.

Additionally, the position of the vehicle’s steering wheel on the right is deemed to make it easier for drivers to manoeuvre when parking on the right side of the road.

“With parking on the right side, drivers will find it easier and more precise when entering the parking space compared to if it were on the left side,” he stated.

Another consideration, continued Sujatmiko, is that the width of the pavement on the right side of the road is relatively wider and has fewer side obstacles compared to the left side.

Dishub also assesses that moving parking to the right side will provide space for public transport stopping facilities on the left side of the road, thereby optimising public transportation services.

“With no parking on the left side, public transport stopping facilities can be better arranged and easily accessed by the public,” he said.

He added that this policy also supports plans to arrange Jalan Suryakencana as a “street” or central business district (CBD) area that is more friendly to economic activities and public mobility.

Sujatmiko mentioned that in the initial stage, this policy will be trialled in the field while conducting outreach to the public and road users.

“The trial starts on 21 April; now we are intensifying outreach first,” he said.

For parking management, Dishub assures that there will be no changes regarding personnel, only adjustments to the parking positions in the field.

“The management remains the same; this is just a technical arrangement, with only the parking position changing,” said Sujatmiko.
