Bogor City (ANTARA) - The Bogor City Government, West Java, continues to regulate and organise street vendors (PKL) in the Surya Kencana area, despite challenges posed by PKL from outside the city operating at several points. Bogor Mayor Dedie A Rachim in Bogor on Saturday stated that regulation is continuously carried out as part of efforts to maintain order and comfort in the area, while also following up on community reports. “This is part of our efforts. It’s not easy, but God willing, we are consistent and can do it. We are monitoring the results of the regulation that has been carried out so far,” Dedie said. Based on reports received, he added, there are still individuals attempting to exploit the situation by returning to sell in areas that have been regulated. After the inspection, the Bogor City Government held a leadership meeting led by Deputy Mayor Jenal Mutaqin along with regional apparatus officials to strengthen on-the-ground organisation measures. On that occasion, Jenal urged vendors not to sell on roadways or pavements, especially on Jalan Pedati, Jalan Bata, Jalan Lawang Saketeng, and surrounding areas. He also conveyed the results of data collection showing that most PKL in the area are from outside Bogor City. This condition is seen to affect the cleanliness and order of the area due to a low sense of ownership towards the environment. Nevertheless, the Bogor City Government ensures that organisation is carried out gradually, prioritising a humane approach and providing alternative locations for the vendors. As part of local government, they are obliged to maintain city order for the broader public interest. “However, I am a Bogor native, paid by Bogor residents, so I am duty-bound to regulate,” he said.
