Bogor City Government plans to eradicate sailfin catfish after discovering their presence in three different locations.

Bogor Mayor Dedie A Rachim stated that the three sites are in Kedung Halang Sukaresmi, Kedung Badak, and under the Yapis Bridge in Bantarjati.

“Regarding the sailfin catfish in Bogor City, we have found them at three points. The first point is in Kedung Halang Sukaresmi, then Kedung Badak, and one more under the Yapis Bridge in Bantarjati,” said Dedie at the Bogor Botanical Gardens on Saturday (25/4/2026).

Dedie explained that the Bogor City Government will first coordinate with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry before taking eradication measures.

According to him, sailfin catfish is an invasive species that can disrupt the balance of aquatic ecosystems.

“So we will try to coordinate with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Minister and Deputy Minister, so that together we can work to eradicate, capture, and control the sailfin catfish pest, which turns out to be destructive to the ecosystem,” he said.

He added that the extermination process of sailfin catfish will consider certain principles.

“As living creatures, there are Sharia-compliant procedures; after all, animals, as creations of Allah, certainly have ways to carry out the extermination process,” said Dedie.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Office (KPKP) Hasudungan Sidabalok stated that the plan is still in the discussion stage.

“It is in the form of a discussion,” said Hasudungan via short message on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

He explained that collaborative steps are deemed important because sailfin catfish reproduce from upstream to downstream of rivers.

Currently, the DKI Provincial Government is also coordinating with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) regarding regulations for controlling invasive fish, namely Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation No. 19 of 2020.

With the involvement of the central government, controlling sailfin catfish is hoped not to be focused only in Jakarta but can reach wider areas.

“We are coordinating with KKP regarding Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation No. 19 of 2020 on controlling invasive fish. If the central government, the coverage is broader and can reach all of Indonesia,” said Hasudungan.
