Bogor City Government Partners with Ride-Hailing Platforms to Sanction Traffic Violating Drivers
The Bogor City Government, West Java, is collaborating with online transportation application providers to discipline online motorcycle taxi drivers who violate traffic laws by implementing graduated sanctions, up to the termination of partnerships.
The Deputy Mayor of Bogor, Jenal Mutaqin, stated in Bogor on Tuesday that this agreement was reached during a coordination meeting with the management of online taxi companies, the Department of Transportation, and the Traffic Unit of the Bogor City Police at Bogor City Hall on Monday (7/9).
“We have agreed that within the application providers’ internal systems, there are rules regarding ethical code violations that can be applied to partners or drivers. They have also provided reporting channels,” said Jenal.
The meeting was convened following numerous public complaints regarding online motorcycle taxi drivers violating traffic laws, including driving against the flow of traffic, riding on pavements, and transporting passengers without helmets.
According to Jenal, members of the public and users of online transportation services can report drivers committing violations directly to the application providers for follow-up.
“Violations are categorised as light, medium, or heavy. The sanctions are also graduated, ranging from warnings and gradual account suspension to the termination of the partnership,” he added.
Jenal reminded all online motorcycle taxi and car drivers in Bogor City to obey traffic regulations and prioritise safety while working.
He requested that drivers avoid driving against the flow or using pavements, and ensure that both drivers and passengers wear helmets.
“Drivers must prioritise safety over speed,” said Jenal.
Clarina Andreny, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Territory Strategy, and Social Impact at Grab Indonesia, stated that the company is ready to support the Bogor City Government in creating traffic order.
She ensured that reports regarding traffic violations committed by driver partners will be followed up in accordance with the company’s internal regulations.
