Bogor chicken slaughter house
BOGOR, West Java (JP): The Bogor Animal Husbandry Agency plans to centralize the chicken slaughter business at a special slaughter house, the agency head said yesterday.
Didi Aswadi said Bogor now had 100 individual slaughter houses that needed to be unified. The individual slaughter houses were owned by small-scale businessmen, he said.
"This will be the first chicken slaughter house in Indonesia. We hope it can become a pilot project," he said, adding that a two-hectare plot in Tanah Sereal had been allotted for the project.
By centralizing the chicken slaughter businesses it would be easy for the local administration to control the business and treat the waste.
To date, 3,500 chicken, 65 cows, 25 goats/sheep, and 10 pigs are slaughtered in Bogor everyday, the agency records show.
"The total meat produced is 14.5 tons a day. That's adequate for the 660,000 people living in Bogor," he said. (21/sur)
