Bogor beefs up security
BOGOR (JP): Plainclothes officers will be deployed to secure the festive seasons of Christmas and New Year and the post- fasting Idul Fitri celebration, an officer announced on Tuesday.
"The plainclothes officers will be dispatched to areas prone to traffic congestion and crime in Bogor, Cianjur and Sukabumi regencies," Bogor Regional Police chief Col. Edi Darnadi said.
The targeted areas include Ciawi, Puncak, Jonggol-Cariu and Bogor-Sukabumi.
"Hopefully they (plainclothes officers) can anticipate any possible dispute on that particular route," Edi said.
The head of the Bogor Land Transportation Agency, Dwi Adi, predicted that the holiday flow exodus would not be as heavy as previous years due to the extended school vacation during the Ramadhan fasting month.
"Many students have already gone back to their hometowns during this holiday, so the traffic won't be as clogged," Dwi said.
Bogor connects Jakarta to other cities in West Java, such as Bandung and the Puncak recreational area.
Chief of Bogor's Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) A. Chotib Malik said a total of 880 buses had been prepared to transport passengers during the exodus season. "The buses are ready and in good condition," he said. (24/edt)
