Bogor administration negligent

The bupati (regent), the chairman of the regency legislative assembly, the head of Public Works of the regency of Bogor have been negligent in their control of contractors for road repairs and maintenance.

There were three letters (Jan. 1 and 9 and Feb. 4, 1997) in the Merdeka letter column on great damage done to the road which has recently been hotmixed, from the intersection of Air Force/Jl. Raya Bogor, westwards to the boundary of the Ministry of Industry housing complex and military detention house. The three letters resulted in some repairs here and there but many parts have remained neglected.

1. In front of the bicycle workshop opposite the PAM office the road is low and has no drains on the left or the right side.

2. On the left side of the Nur Syamsi Islamic School (pesantren), at 50 meters from point 1 there are six potholes over the whole width of the road, three of which close together with a diameter of one meter and a depth of 10 to 15 centimeters.

3. At two spots 10 meters from a kerosene booth close to the three-way intersection of the Industry Ministry housing complex, rain water has eroded the area. There are no drains on the sides.

The inhabitants who have co-financed the hotmixing of the road over a length of three kilometers, are astounded by the negligence of the authorities toward the contractor's substandard performance.

Has the contractor become too powerful or has the Bogor regional administration stooped so low that no steps have been taken?

The Bogor regency administration should pay serious attention to road repairs as well as road construction for the sake of the beauty and quality of the amenities of the whole Bogor area.
