JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has started 2026 with an improvement in financial performance amid ongoing efforts to recover its commercial and defence businesses.

In the first quarter of 2026, Boeing recorded revenue of $22.2 billion, equivalent to approximately Rp381.7 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp17,194 per US dollar), an 18 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Alongside the revenue rise, the company’s net loss narrowed sharply to $7 million, or about Rp120.4 billion.

Boeing President and Chief Executive Officer Kelly Ortberg stated that the company continues to show progress in efforts to stabilise operations.

“Our company is moving in the right direction as we continue to improve operational performance and execute our recovery plan,” Ortberg said during the company’s quarterly performance briefing, quoted from Boeing’s official website, Wednesday (22/4/2026).

The performance improvement was primarily supported by an increase in commercial aircraft deliveries.

The Commercial Airplanes segment recorded revenue of $9.2 billion, or about Rp158.2 trillion, up 13 percent from the previous year. This increase mainly came from higher delivery volumes.

Nevertheless, this segment still posted an operating loss of $563 million, or about Rp9.68 trillion.

The operating margin also remained in negative territory, reflecting challenges that have not yet been fully resolved in production recovery and supply chains.

The company is also continuing to expand the new 737 MAX production line in Everett, Washington, United States.

In addition, Boeing stated that certification for the 737 MAX 7 and MAX 10 variants is still targeted for achievement in 2026, with deliveries starting in 2027.

Progress in the commercial business is also reflected in the growth of the backlog, or pending order value, which is approaching $700 billion, equivalent to about Rp12,035 trillion.
