Body of Indramayu fisherman found in Jepara waters after vessel sinks in collision with barge
A fisherman who was a crew member of the KM Almujib, which sank after being struck by a barge in waters near Biawak Island, Indramayu, has been found in Jepara waters, Central Java. The victim had previously been declared missing and was the subject of a search operation by the Joint Search and Rescue Team (SAR).
The victim was identified as Ari Wibowo, 23 years old, a resident of Margadadi Village, Kalenyamin Block, Indramayu District. He was one of four crew members of the Almujib declared missing.
“The body of the victim was found in Jepara waters, Central Java, on Monday, 9 March 2026,” said the Head of the Maritime Police Unit of Indramayu Police Station, AKP Asep Suryana, on Wednesday (11/3/2026).
The body was initially discovered by fishermen from Jepara and reported to authorities. The Basarnas (Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency) team from Central Java then coordinated with the Maritime Police Unit of Jepara Police Station and officials from Kartini General Hospital in Jepara, and it was suspected to be one of the victims from the KM Almujib crew.
“The body was identified by the victim’s family based on physical characteristics, including a tattoo on his left hand, a bracelet on his right hand, and his clothing,” said Asep.
