Body of Former Defence Minister Juwono Sudarsono Lies in State at Ministry of Defence Office

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The body of Juwono Sudarsono, Defence Minister during President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s era, is lying in state at the Ministry of Defence building in Jakarta on Sunday (29/3/2026).

“Today, the funeral procession for Defence Minister of the 1999-2000 and 2004-2009 periods, Mr Juwono Sudarsono, will proceed; at 08:00 this morning, it has already been placed in the Quiet Room of the Ministry of Defence,” said the Head of the Defence Information Bureau (Karo Infohan) of the Ministry of Defence Secretariat General, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, at the Ministry of Defence building in Jakarta on Sunday.

The casket, covered with the Red and White flag, was seen being carried to the Quiet Room of the Ministry of Defence.

Rico stated that the Ministry of Defence will hold a body release ceremony at 11:00 WIB, led by Deputy Minister of Defence Donny Ermawan Taufanto.

He also mentioned that the inspecting officer for the funeral procession at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery will be led by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

Rico also invited national figures to come to the Ministry of Defence while the body is lying in state.

“Indeed, with it being placed in this Quiet Room, if there are national figures who wish to come to offer condolences and so on, they are welcome, so the release at 11:00 is when the ceremony will be held to escort the body to Kalibata Heroes Cemetery,” he said.

The news was confirmed by the Head of Public Relations and Defence Information Bureau of the Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo.

“Correct,” said Rico on Saturday.

In the confirmed information, Juwono passed away at Pondok Indah Hospital in South Jakarta around 13:45 WIB.

The information also explains that Juwono was a son of the nation with dedicated service to the country, especially in the fields of defence and international relations.

The body will be lying in state at 09:00 WIB on Sunday, 29 March 2026, at the Urip Sumoharjo Building, Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Defence, Merdeka Barat Field, Central Jakarta.

The extended family also requests prayers so that the deceased receives the best place by the side of the Almighty God and that all those left behind receive strength.
