Body found in parked car

JAKARTA (JP): A decomposing body was found inside a Kijang van parked in the Hilton Hotel compound on Thursday, a police officer said.

Tanah Abang Police Sr. Insp. Angesta Romano Yoyol said the body, later identified as Erwin Sapta Wiradi, was noticed by the hotel parking attendant, Kaslan.

"The victim's remains are in an early decomposing state as he checked into the hotel two days ago," he said. The police have not found a motive for the killing, he added.

"We assume Erwin was murdered because we have found evidence of a physical assault. There were several bruises around his eyes and his mouth was torn," Yoyol added.

He said the victim was a resident of Sukabumi, West Java, and worked as the general secretary of Siliwangi boxing camp.

Separately, Kaslan said he spotted Edwin's body lying in the front seat of the rented white Kijang van after he smelled a strong odor.

Edwin's body was transferred to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital's morgue in Central Jakarta. The Jakarta Police detectives are handling the investigation. (lup)
