Someone came to offer congratulations, then asked for a signature. I asked, what project is this? How did it suddenly land on my desk? Bobby said in a written statement, Thursday (21 May 2026).

One of the projects highlighted by Bobby was the construction of a physical building with an allocated budget of Rp 484 billion. According to him, the project had never been presented in detail, neither the development concept nor the budget breakdown.

“The building wasn’t presented, wasn’t exposed; suddenly they asked for it to be signed. The value runs into hundreds of billions. I reject it,” he said.

Bobby emphasised that he does not want to approve a project blindly without a clear study, especially if the budget appears inflated.

He said he would be more stringent in examining all project submissions from the OPD to prevent wasteful spending or project manipulation within the North Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov Sumut).

“I don’t want to sign off if the process isn’t clear. Everything must be transparent and reasonable,” he stated.

He urged OPD within the Pemprov Sumut to refrain from submitting projects that appear odd or merely rely on political connections to obtain budget approval.

“Every development programme must truly benefit the people, not just squander the regional budget,” he concluded. (akn/ega)
