Bobby Nasution Reflects on Past Political Affiliations: 'Once is Enough'
The Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, opened up about his political past during the Gerindra Party Laskar Training event in Sibolangit, Deli Serdang Regency, on Saturday (3/10/2026). His remarks went viral on social media, attracting significant attention and comments from netizens.
In his reflections, the son-in-law of Indonesia’s 7th President, Jokowi, admitted to being dismissed by the PDIP party, which led to his transition to the Gerindra Party. During the event, Bobby Nasution emphasised that he has no intention of moving to another party in the future.
Furthermore, the brother-in-law of Vice President Gibran expressed his desire to expand the Gerindra Party’s presence in North Sumatra, expressing confidence that this can be achieved through the hard work of all party cadres.
“Gerindra is the proper and appropriate home for us to achieve the aspirations of the Indonesian Nation. The Gerindra Party is not a party without struggle, nor is it a party that suddenly becomes a winner. All of us, including myself, let us make our mark to grow the name of Gerindra, at least in North Sumatra,” said Bobby while attending the training event in Sibolangit, as reported on Monday (5/10/2026).
Additionally, the Governor of North Sumatra admitted that he is still a newcomer to Gerindra following his dismissal from PDIP. Consequently, he noted that he should ideally be positioned among the training participants.
“To be honest, I should be right there with you, in your ranks. Because I have also just joined (Gerindra),” he said.
“Previously, I was in another party. For several years I was in my previous party, but I was dismissed, terminated,” he added.
Bobby Nasution reiterated his stance that he does not wish to switch to another party again.
“What gives me peace is that at that time, I saw the cadres and the Gerindra Party opening their arms wide for me. This is my path, and I believe moving parties should happen only once. Let me remain in the Gerindra Party,” he stated.
On another note, Bobby also called upon all attendees to support President Prabowo Subianto’s programmes. He assessed that Prabowo’s initiatives are impactful in improving the welfare of the people.
“We, and all of us, are entrusted to protect not only the party’s reputation but also the President’s programmes. The President’s programmes have a significant impact on the lower classes, specifically in bringing prosperity to the people,” he elaborated.
