North Sumatra Governor Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution has expressed appreciation for the support from Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) to include the North Sumatra Fair (PRSU) in the Ministry of Tourism’s national event calendar. The support was conveyed during a specific working visit by Commission VII to the 50th PRSU in Medan on Thursday (9/7/2026).

Bobby stated that this year’s PRSU is the first held under his leadership and serves as a moment of revival following the Covid-19 pandemic. He noted that the fair is a platform that unites the potential of human resources, culture, and the creative economy of North Sumatra.

"In other regions, they might only showcase one type of dance, whereas in North Sumatra, at least five ethnic groups are represented through traditional attire, cultural parades, and dances. This diversity is a significant potential to strengthen culture, human resources, and the economy," said Bobby.

He expressed hope that the PRSU could become part of the national event calendar, thereby enhancing cultural promotion while driving regional economic growth. Bobby also reminded all district and city governments in North Sumatra to set aside sectoral egos in supporting the PRSU. He observed that some regions already have pavilions but have not utilised them optimally to introduce their respective potentials.

"There should be no regional ego. The pavilions are already there, but they are not opened or used to introduce their respective regions to the public," he said.

According to Bobby, the success of the PRSU is not just a success for the North Sumatra Provincial Government or the governor, but a success for all the people of North Sumatra. If included in the national agenda, the PRSU is believed to be capable of becoming a driver of the regional economy through the culture and tourism sectors.

Following the meeting, Bobby and the Commission VII delegation toured several district and city pavilions, including those of Asahan, Karo, and Deliserdang. Meanwhile, the head of the Commission VII working visit team, Evita Nursanty, assessed that as the fair reaches its golden anniversary of 50 years, it must continue to be transformed into a more professional event that provides tangible benefits to the community. She noted a strong spirit to make the PRSU not merely entertainment, but a space with broad economic and social impact, serving as a showcase for culture, MSMEs, and the creative economy, as well as a promotional medium for tourism and regional potential.
