Bobby Nasution Alternates Office to Nias to Accelerate Development
Medan (ANTARA) - North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution will alternately work from the Nias Islands with Deputy Governor Surya for three months to accelerate development and help the region catch up. Erwin Hotmansah Harahap, Head of the North Sumatra Communication and Informatics Office, stated in Medan on Friday that this policy represents the provincial government’s commitment to expediting the resolution of various development issues in the Nias Islands. According to Erwin, during his office term in the Nias Islands from 15 to 20 July 2026, Bobby Nasution has pushed for several strategic programmes, including the construction of SMK Negeri 1 Gido in Nias Regency and SMA Negeri Unggulan Sukma Nias in Gunungsitoli City. The North Sumatra Provincial Government is also accelerating the repair of the West Nias–South Nias road, the construction of the Sungai Mo’awo Bridge in Gunungsitoli City, and the building of a logistics warehouse in the Gunungsitoli Ro-Ro Port area. Erwin added that entering the second week, the office term in the Nias Islands will be continued by Deputy Governor Surya. Afterwards, Governor Bobby Nasution is scheduled to return to Nias to continue the completion of various development programmes. According to Erwin, this policy of establishing an office in the Nias Islands is the first of its kind undertaken by a governor since the establishment of North Sumatra Province around 78 years ago. Previously, governors only conducted working visits to the region without setting up a temporary office. He stated that four districts in the Nias Islands—Nias, North Nias, South Nias, and West Nias—are still classified as underdeveloped regions. This condition is one of the reasons the provincial government is prioritising the acceleration of development in the Nias Islands area.
