Bob Hawke scheduled to speak at seminar
JAKARTA (JP): Former Australian prime minister Robert J. Hawke is scheduled to speak at "the Indonesian Capital Market's 19th Anniversary Conference" here next month.
The chairman of the Capital Market Supervisory Agency (Bapepam), I Putu Gede Ary Suta, told journalists yesterday that Hawke will discuss global perspectives on Asian values.
"It is widely-known that any country's economic growth is based on its social values. And we choose Hawke to elaborate this issue because he once made a good presentation on the issue in Singapore," said the conference's organizer John Prasetio from Prasetio Utomo & Co.
Other speakers at the conference, to be held on August 8 and August 9, will include Minister of Finance Mari'e Muhammad, Bank Indonesia Governor Soedradjad Djiwandono, Vice Governor of the National Resilience Institute Juwono Sudarsono, Director General of State-owned Enterprises Bacelius Ruru and Merrill Lynch's president, Mitchell Shriver.
Karen Koh from ABN television, Richard Borsuk from The Asian Wall Street Journal and Henny Senders from Far Eastern Economic Review will act as moderators.
Putu said that around 1,000 people are expected to attend the conference, including 300 foreign investors and fund managers.
"We will also make use of this event to promote Indonesian companies, both privately-owned and state-owned," Putu said.
John said that the companies registered to give presentations at the conference are Bank Negara Indonesia 1946, PT Krakatau Steel, PT Tambang Timah, PT Jasa Marga, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara, PT Rajawali Nusantara, PT Aneka Tambang, Texmaco Group and Sinar Mas Group. (alo)
