Boars, monkeys attack plantations
CIAMIS, West Java: Dozens of boars and monkeys from Mount
Sawal are raiding plantations in Cipaku in the West Java regency
of Tasikmalaya after a 12-kilometer-long wall collapsed last
Thursday.
The old wall, which is 50 centimeters wide and two meters
tall, was erected in 1980 to protect villagers from animals.
Sukawening village head Rubai said on Friday that people were
anxious as every night animals destroyed their crops and monkeys
entered their homes.
"It will take Rp 100 million to restore the wall but people
have lost dozens of millions of rupiah," he said, adding that
villagers killed three animals a night and had limited weapons.
