A female Islamic boarding school student in Depok, West Java, named Saina Tazkiya Zulala Azizi (17) has been reported missing. Before her disappearance, Saina left a letter expressing her wish to leave the boarding school (pesantren) and requesting that no one search for her.

Cimanggis Police Chief Kompol Jupriono explained that Saina was discovered to be missing since Monday afternoon (2 February). According to him, Saina left the pesantren where she was studying in Tapos, Depok.

"On Monday, 2 February 2026, at approximately 4.30pm local time, Al Muhajirin Islamic Boarding School in Cilangkap, Tapos, Depok, held a Quran recitation session with its students. However, the victim was not present at the session," Jupriono told reporters on Saturday (21 February 2026).

Jupriono said that her friends attempted to look for Saina at that time. During their search, they discovered Saina's letter in her room.

"Her roommate found a letter on top of the victim's wardrobe which read: 'I apologise, Umi and Ustaz and friends, I want to leave. I don't know for how long and I don't know where. Please don't tell my parents either, and don't look for me, and I ask that you please pay my sempol debt of Rp 2,500.' After that, the school continued searching," he said.

Jupriono noted that the pesantren continued its search for Saina. By the following day, one of the school's alumni spotted the girl and attempted to call out to her.

"Fauzan, a graduate of Al Muhajirin Islamic Boarding School, saw the victim in front of Mardi Waluya Christian School in Cilodong, and Fauzan called out to the victim," said Jupriono.

"However, the victim did not respond and Fauzan observed that the victim's face appeared pale. To this day, the victim has not returned," he added.

Jupriono confirmed that police are still conducting a search for Saina. Officers are also continuing to take statements from the victim's friends and the administrators of Al Muhajirin Islamic Boarding School.
