Boarding House Occupant Jumps from Second Floor to Escape Fire in Tebet

A fire broke out at a shophouse used as a boarding house and photocopy business in Tebet, South Jakarta. One of the boarding house residents, Salman, said he survived after jumping from the second floor.

Salman said he heard shouts that there was a fire at around 03.00 WIB on Monday (24/8/2026). He said smoke had already entered his room by that time.

He said the fire appeared to originate from the ground floor. He immediately secured his bag and laptop.

Salman then jumped from the second floor to save himself. He said his diploma and clothes left behind in his boarding room were burned.

“My diploma was burned, and I have no clothes left, but I just received a donation of clothes from a neighbour,” Salman said.

He said three people saved themselves by jumping from the second floor. Meanwhile, one of his colleagues escaped through the front fence of the house by breaking through the flames, which caused burns.

“He was a bit late, so he suffered burns, and the one who jumped sprained his leg,” Salman said.

Meanwhile, the local neighbourhood unit head, Wildan, said the exact cause of the fire was not yet known. He said the initial suspicion is that the fire was caused by a short circuit.

“For now, the cause of the fire is not yet known; the temporary suspicion is an electrical short circuit,” Wildan said.

For information, the fire on Jalan Rasamala II RT 06 RW 09, Menteng Dalam Urban Village, Tebet District, South Jakarta, destroyed the two-storey shophouse. The fire caused four deaths.
